Building something a little different.

Hi, I'm Mike. I've been building Lovd, a personal scrapbooking app for sharing, organising and exploring your memories as something more than a list of photos. Here's how it started.

My dad's retirement party

A few months ago I went to my dad's retirement party. My brother had put together a slideshow of Dad's whole life: the awkward teenage years, his time doing bomb disposal in Somalia, the dad-bod at the beach. I'd never seen half of those pictures, and it hit me how many photos we all have that just sit there, never looked at again.

After the party we all posted our photos in the family group chat. Sound familiar? Another digital drawer, and that was the end of it.

So I started building a place for the other kind of sharing: memories with the people you actually care about, where family and friends can add to and relive the same moments. Not another giant feed of everyone and their dog (although you can still tag your dog).

What is Lovd?

Lovd takes the photos from your camera roll and lays them out as a timeline and a map of your life. You can add events, notes and albums, then share them with the people who were there.

Social media buries us in posts from people we barely know, while our own best memories get lost in cloud storage or stranded on whichever platform was popular at the time.

Your relationship, your family, your friends: your memories, with the people you care about.

What you can do today

• Timeline: organise your photos, albums, events and notes (recipes, songs, whatever fits).
• Map: see your photos pinned to the places they were taken.
• Shared collections: invite people to add their own photos and notes, like a group scrapbook.
• Privacy: you decide who sees what. No public walls, no strangers.

What I'd like to build next

• Presentation mode: a slideshow that plays through your events, for parties or a quiet evening of reminiscing.
• Journey mode: watch a trip play out on a map, with photos and notes appearing as you go.
• Event planning: plan an event, invite people, and collect everyone's photos afterwards.
