Exporting & Deleting Your Data
Under GDPR (and similar privacy laws), you have the right to receive a copy of your data ("data portability") and to request its deletion ("right to be forgotten"). Both are self-service in Lovd.
Export Your Data
Open Data settings
Go to Account Settings → Data (/account/data).
Request the export
Click Request Data Export. Your export is packaged while you wait — large accounts can take a few minutes — and we email you when it's ready.
Download the ZIP
When the export is ready, click Download.

What's in the ZIP
data/ folder: your records (JSON)
profile.json, collections.json, posts.json (events, albums, notes), assets.json (photo metadata), people.json (Lovd Ones), relationships.json, invitations.json, subscription.json, activity_summary.json, and complete_export.json (everything in one file).
assets/ folder: your photos
Your uploaded photos in original quality, plus a manifest.json listing every file.
profile/ folder: pictures
Your profile picture and the profile pictures of your Lovd Ones.
Photos keep their original format (JPEG, PNG, HEIC, etc.); metadata is machine-readable JSON.
Delete Your Account
Deleting your account removes your photos, profile, and account data. To remove individual photos or collections instead, open the item and use its delete option; those deletions are immediate.
Open Data settings
Go to Account Settings → Data and scroll to Delete account.
Schedule deletion
Click Schedule deletion, then type DELETE to confirm.
When you schedule deletion:
- A 7-day grace period starts. Nothing is removed yet; cancel anytime from your Data settings.
- After 7 days, your photos, profile, and account are permanently deleted, and any active subscription is set to cancel at its period end.
- You're removed from all collections you belonged to; collections you owned are deleted. Photos you contributed to others' collections are removed too.
- Backup and CDN copies are purged within 90 days (see Section 6 of the Privacy Policy).

Deleting vs. cancelling a subscription
Deleting your account is separate from cancelling a paid plan. If you only want to stop paying but keep your account, see Cancelling your subscription, which explains the post-cancellation grace period for your content.
What we may retain
For legal reasons, some records survive account deletion:
- Payment records, kept for tax purposes (handled via Polar, our payment processor, which has its own retention policy).
- Records of illegal-content reports and any data tied to ongoing legal proceedings.
- Anonymized, aggregated analytics that cannot identify you.
Prefer to Email?
For either an export or a deletion request, you can email privacy@lovd.app with your account email and what you want done. We respond within 30 days, as required by GDPR.
