Creating your account
Pick your handle first
Every sign-up starts with a handle at the top of the . It's your @username (like @jane or @smith_family) and it's how family and friends find you. We check it's available as you type.
Handles are 3–30 characters, start with a letter, and can contain letters, numbers and underscores.
Below the handle, tick the box to confirm you're at least 16 and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Once your handle is available and the box is ticked, the sign-up buttons unlock:
- Sign up with Google or Sign up with Apple: no password and no verification email. With Apple you can share or hide your email address.
- Sign up with email: the expandable section under those two buttons. Works with any email address, verified with a link.

Enter an available handle and tick the age and terms box.

You're sent to Google or Apple to choose the account you want to use.

We claim the handle you picked and take you straight to your collections.

Expand the email section, then enter your email address and a password (at least 8 characters).
Complete the security check
A quick check confirms you're a real person.
Verify your email
Select Create an account. We send you a verification link; open it to activate your account and land on your collections.
After you sign up
Because you picked your handle up front, you go straight to your collections. If you signed up with Google or Apple and we couldn't claim a handle for you (someone took yours while you were away, or you never picked one), we ask you to choose one on a quick setup step first.
You can round out your profile whenever you like in Profile settings. Everything here is optional:
- Profile photo: helps people recognise you.
- Name: your first and last name, so family and friends can find you.
- Birthday and birthplace: these help build your family timeline and map.
Then you're ready to create your first collection.

- Verification email not arriving? Check spam, wait a few minutes, or try a different address. Still stuck? Contact support.
- Already have an account? . Forgot your password? Open Log in with email, then select Forgot? for a reset link.
