Making a post
What's a post?
A post is a single memory in Lovd, like "Beach Holiday", "Mum's Birthday" or "First Day of School". Each one has a title and can hold photos, a date, a description and a location.
There are three types:
- Album: a set of photos from a holiday, a day out or an ordinary week.
- Event: a special occasion like a wedding, birthday, graduation or trip.
- Note: a recipe, journal entry, letter or other memory told in words.
How to create a post
Select Post in the top right of the header, or press N. On the calendar, hover over a day and select the + beside its number, or right-click the day and choose New post on this date, to start a post on that date; if a new post is already open, that sets its date instead. The form opens in a pane beside whatever you were looking at. It's one form, not a wizard, so fill in the parts you care about in any order.
For a quick post, select New post on the bar along the bottom of the feed. It has the title, description, type, date, photos and collections; select Full view to carry on in the full form with what you've written.
Choose the type
The top row holds an icon and colour picker, the title, the post type and the post's date. The type picker has everything in one list: Album, then an Event section with the occasions and a Note section with the kinds of note (see the lists below). Type in its search box to find one quickly.
Add your photos
Two buttons sit above the form (beside it when the pane is wide):
- Select existing photos opens your gallery, showing only photos. Tap photos to add them to the post, or tap again to take one back out, then select Done on the banner (or the same button in the form). Your picks stay however you finish.
- Upload media takes you to the upload page for photos that aren't in Lovd yet. Your new post is already offered under Add to posts, and the photos join the form once they've processed. See Uploading photos below.
Each attached photo shows as a thumbnail. Hover one for ✕ to remove it, or for the pin button that copies that photo's location to the post.
Add the details
Give your post a title in the top row, then write a description in the editor below it. The date comes from the first attached photo that has one; change it from the date button in the top row whenever you like.
Type @ in the description to mention someone. The list shows the people in the collection you have open, or everyone across your collections when none is selected.
Set the location and collections
Under Location, search for a place, enter coordinates, or pick a point on the map. With the map open, your new post shows on it as a pin in the post's icon and colour: move the map until the crosshair is on the spot and select Set location, or right-click a spot and choose Use this location. Under Collections, the pencil opens the picker: choose as many as you like, or leave it empty and add collections later.
Select Share post and you're done.
Uploading photos
Your photos live in one library and posts are built from it, so uploading has its own page. Open it with Upload in the header (or press U), or with Upload media from a post you're writing.
Add the photos
Drag them onto the page, or select Add from device. Add as many as you like at once.
Say where they go
Once there's something to upload, the controls appear next to your photos:
- Add to collections picks which collections the photos join. Everyone in those collections will see them.
- Add to posts links the photos to posts you've already made: use Select in gallery to pick the posts there.
- Upload quality switches between Compressed and Original for this batch.
Start the upload
Select the floating upload button, which counts what's waiting ("Upload 24 photos"). Progress shows on the same bar. Photos keep processing for a moment after it finishes, so give them a little time to sharpen up.
You don't have to wait on the page. Go anywhere else in Lovd and the upload carries on, with its progress in a small notice at the top of the screen. Select View uploads on it to come back to your photos. Keep Lovd open until it's done, though: reloading or closing Lovd stops any photos still on their way.
Sort them one at a time
When you add photos, they come up one at a time so each can go somewhere different. Drag each one onto where it belongs, and it goes there and nowhere else. Or select a few posts and collections, then select Upload photo to add it to all of them at once. (When you start from a post you're writing, the photos stay in the list instead, ready for that post.)
- New post (along the top) asks for a title, an icon and colour, and collections, then makes the post. It stays along the top for the next photos.
- Add to post (along the top) asks which of your posts the photo is for. Choose one or several; they stay along the top too.
- Your collections are listed down the right. Under them, See collections asks which collections the photo joins (one or several), and the ones you pick move to the top of the list.
- None (at the foot of the collections) uploads the photo into no collection, so only you can see it.
- Later (left) leaves the photo in the list for now.
- Remove (left) takes it out of the list, so it isn't added.
New post, Add to post and See collections ask first. Drop the photo on one and it goes to your answer; select one instead and your answer is selected, ready for Upload photo.
The bar over the foot of the photo (along the bottom of the screen, on a phone) shows when and where it was taken. Select either to change it, or Add date and Add location when it has none. Below the photo, the Tag people button at the right end opens the people picker so you can tag who's in it, and the people you've tagged lately show up beside it, the most recent nearest the button: select one to tag them, or again to untag them.
Each photo uploads as soon as you drop it or select Upload photo, even if you then leave the page, and Undo on the bar takes the last one back for a few seconds. After Upload photo, a shortcut takes its place, showing where the last photo went and who was tagged: select it to send the next photo the same way, or close it with its x.
Bulk (or Back to the list once every photo is sorted) shows everything as a grid instead, where one choice of collections and posts covers every photo. Swipe sort on the floating bar brings the one-at-a-time view back. In the Lovd phone app, the recent photos banner at the foot of your home feed offers both: Swipe sort opens this view and Bulk the grid, while Skip leaves those photos out.
Supported file types
JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC (the iPhone default).
File size and quality
Each photo can be up to 50 MB on every plan. If one is bigger, resize or re-export it first.
Compressed is the default: photos are resized to at most 2048px and saved as WebP, which looks the same for almost every use. Original keeps your exact file alongside the compressed version, and both count toward your storage. Switch under Upload quality on the upload page, or set your default in . Both options are available on every plan.

Photo details are automatic
Lovd reads the date, location and camera details saved in each photo. That's where a post gets its date (from the first attached photo that has one) and what the pin button on each thumbnail uses. You can change both anytime.
Open a single photo to see the rest in its details panel: the camera and lens, then one row with ISO, focal length, exposure compensation, aperture and shutter speed. Select that row to see metering, white balance and flash under it. This works for photos you uploaded long ago too.

After you post
You'll find your post in every collection you added it to. You can edit its title, description or photos anytime, and add it to more collections or remove it from one without deleting it.
Upload troubleshooting
Upload failed? Check these in order:
- File size: is the photo over 50 MB? Resize or re-export it.
- Storage: are you out of space? Check Account settings → Subscription → Storage.
- Connection: uploads need a steady connection, so try again once your signal is better.
- Format: if one file won't upload, convert it to JPEG.
Upload seems stuck? Big photos take a while, especially on mobile data. Give it a minute, then refresh, upload fewer at a time, or switch to Wi-Fi.
Photos not showing up? They take a moment to process. If they're still missing after a minute or two, refresh the page and look for an error message. Still stuck? Contact support.
