Why life events?
Life events turn a name on a card into a person with a story. Birthdays show up on your calendar and timeline, birthplaces put people on the map, and a date passed lets you honour someone you've lost. Every field is optional, so add what you know and leave the rest.
Birthday
You can set a birthday for yourself and for any Lovd One you created.
Your own birthday
Go to in your account settings, pick a date in Birthday, and select Save changes.
A Lovd One's birthday
Add it when you create the Lovd One, or later from the People page: if they don't have one yet, use the date picker right on their card, or choose Edit from the card's ⋮ menu.
Where birthdays appear
- Calendar. A tile on their birthday every year, coloured by your connection to them. On a busy day, the extra birthdays collapse into one stacked tile with a count.
- Timeline. A marker on the date they were born.
- Person cards and profiles. The date with a cake icon.
Birthplace
Search for a place and Lovd saves both its name and its location.
Your own birthplace
Go to , start typing in Birthplace, pick a result, and select Save changes.
A Lovd One's birthplace
Edit the Lovd One, type in Birthplace and pick a result.
Everyone with a birthplace gets a cake pin on the map. Hover a pin to see the person's card, or select it to open their profile. The cake button in the map toolbar shows or hides the pins; they're on by default.
Date passed away
For a Lovd One who has died, you can record the date they passed. This field only exists on Lovd Ones, not on accounts.
To set, change or remove it, choose Edit from the ⋮ menu on their card on the People page, then fill in or clear Passed away and save. Everything updates straight away.
What changes
- Calendar. Their birthday tiles stop at the year they passed.
- Timeline. Their marker shows a flower instead of a cake.
- Person cards. With both a birthday and a date passed, the card shows a lifespan like
1945–2023with a flower icon. - Reminders. Lovd stops sending birthday notifications for them.
They stay taggable in photos, and nothing is hidden. The change just tells everyone at a glance that this person is remembered, not celebrated.
Privacy & visibility
- Your own birthday and birthplace are only visible to people you share a collection or post with, and people you're connected to.
- A Lovd One's life events are visible to you and to anyone who can see a collection with a photo they're tagged in.
- Only the person who created a Lovd One can edit their details.
FAQ
Can I set my own date passed?
No, it only exists on Lovd Ones. If someone you love had an account and has since died, a family member can create a Lovd One for them and tag the same photos.
Do birthdays send reminders?
Only if you want them. Turn on Birthdays under Reminders in your and you'll get a push notification on the morning of a birthday in one of your collections. It's off by default.
