Sharing & Permissions

Invite family and friends to your collections and choose what each person can do.

Collections are private by default: only you can see them until you invite someone. When you share, you choose who gets access (by email or a link) and what they can do (their role).

How to share a collection

Open Sharing settings

In the collection, open Settings (gear icon) and go to the Sharing tab.

Enter someone's email address, or generate a shareable link to send yourself.

Choose their role

Pick Viewer, Contributor, or Editor. (Only the Owner can grant the Editor role.)

Send it

Email invites arrive with a join link. Recipients without a lovd account are prompted to create a free one.

Shareable links are an alternative to email invites. Each link carries a role and can be set to expire (default 7 days, up to a year, or never) and limited to a maximum number of uses. Revoke a link any time to cut off access.

The four roles

Everyone in a collection holds exactly one role.

Owner

The person who created the collection. Full control, including managing people. One Owner per collection.

Editor

Trusted people who can upload, organise, and remove photos.

Contributor

Can add their own photos but can't reorganise or remove others' content.

Viewer

Can see, like, comment, and download, but can't add or change anything.

Not sure which to pick? Start with Viewer. It's easy to upgrade someone later, and awkward to downgrade. Use Contributor for guests adding their own photos from an event, and Editor for a partner or trusted family member who helps manage the collection.

Managing access

See who has access: open Collection Settings → Sharing for the full list of people and pending invites.

Change a role: find the person, tap their current role, and pick a new one. Changes take effect immediately.

Remove someone: find them in the list and tap Remove. They lose access straight away. Photos they uploaded stay in the collection unless you remove those separately.

Ownership can't be transferred. There's exactly one Owner per collection and no co-owners. If someone else needs to manage it, make them an Editor, who can do almost everything except manage people.

Invites

Pending invites: people must accept before they can see anything. Email invites expire after 7 days. If one lapses, just send a fresh invite or resend it from the Sharing settings.

Invite not arriving? Ask the recipient to check their spam/junk folder, search their inbox for "lovd", and confirm you used the right email address.

Storage and sharing

Contributors and Editors use your storage. Photos uploaded to your collection count against the Owner's storage quota, not the uploader's. So everyone can add their photos from a holiday or event without needing a paid plan themselves.

Each file can be up to 50 MB on every plan. Storage quotas are 500 MB on Explorer, 5 GB on Curator (€1/mo or €8/yr), and 50 GB on Archivist (€3/mo or €30/yr). See Plans & Billing for details.
